The Role of the Administrator |
|
|
The Administrator so far as Multi User is concerned is the person who controls all the machines on the Multi User network.
Multi User relies on ONE machine having all of the data for the entire network so will actually be able to "see" the data from every machine. However, when synchronising with the other machines although it will gather the information from them all, it only ever sends back the information relating to the individual machine. it uses the Site identifier (B100, B200 etc) to do that.
The Administrator does have full control over this process and can override the default settings but in normal use nothing is actually needed to be done on a daily basis other than setting the system up.
The administration is effected if required using the Log Manager.
Besides that role the Administrator has another crucial role to play. Since they control the data for all the machines some of that data is managed centrally. An example of that would be a list of Breeds. The Administrator will have access to the list and can add, change and delete this as normal. Any changes will be passed to the other machines automatically and they in turn will be able to use those changes. These records in the most are quite obvious but some will not be so obvious. Note that if anyone other than the Administrator makes any changes to these records those changes will be lost on the next synchronisation. The system is set up to pass that information down to the other machines but NOT the other way.
To help in that here are a list of the most common areas where the Administrator will manage. Please note that almost all of these are managed via Preferences/Settings which is now only available to the Master User. You do not need to know this list off by heart but simply be aware of this feature:
