Creating a new site |
|
|
Now that the master site has been set up you now need to create a Site record for every machine that will be used on the system. In other words, every machine EXCEPT the B000 machine. DO NOT jump in and try to do this in one go as you will get confused. Please setup one site at a time, test that and when completely happy it is working you can then create a new site.
This facility is only available to the main administrator and is reached by clicking on Create on the main Log Manager window. We also recommend that you PAUSE PROCESSING while you set up the new site.
Every machine that is connected to the system must have a unique site record created before any data transfer can take place.
Note: You can only create sites for the number of Sites you are registered for otherwise an error message is shown:
Stage 1
The first window that is shown suggests the next identifier of the site to be created. Here it is B100. You can change this if required but please refer to the Structure Diagrams before doing this. We recommend you accept the suggested identifier.
The relationship name is simply a description that appears in the Log Manager window. So you might want to enter something like "Master to Sandra transfer". This just makes identification easier and will be especially useful if using several sites to connect to.
This site confirms the site of the master administrator. Again remember that only the master administrator can create new sites and the relationship between the various machines.
The INI filename should not be changed as this will affect the operation of Multi user dramatically. In fact if you change this setting, unless otherwise advised by Ambrit Software, the resulting data loss and corruption is highly likely.
The Site Range choice should be considered very carefully and you might like to refer to the section The Role of the Administrator if you need further clarification.
Mirror/Parent Site is usually the master administrator site so should not be chosen (unless this is the Master Site). However if using a 2 user scenario then you may want to keep this setting. This setting will transfer ALL records that have changed from the B000 to other machines. However the data transfer times will be proportionally larger. Single Site is most likely to be your preferred choice as only records for that individual machine requires will be sent to it. Only the B100 records are transferred. Customised Range allows you to manipulate the data sent to the site. So you can send data from say the B100, B200 and B300 machines to B400 for example.
Assign Worker - select a worker from the drop down box who this site will relate to.
Note: In this version the Mirror/Parent Site is the only choice available. The Assign Worker is not required.
Stage 2
This window allows you to set up the login details of your email or FTP server. The email settings mirror those already set up in the software but if you have not already set up email then you should refer to the help file for more details.
Important note: You must have set up a dedicated email address for use with multi user.
As discussed earlier, just as the master machine used it's own dedicated email address of b000@your domain name then the B100 site must use it;s own email address such as b100@your domain name. The other settings should be identical to those used when setting up the master user.
We suggest you do NOT check FTP for now.
Stage 3
This window will appear differently depending on your previous settings. However for the time being, as we are only using email transfer methods you should check Email only. Do NOT check Direct Copy for now. This will disable the New Child Site's Incoming Directory field.
Congratulations, you have now created a new Site. This is shown below as the new relationship below( B000 > B100)
At this stage you have set up the master machine and told it to expect to send and receive data from and to another machine B100. |
